Kosovo crisis if UN leaves, FM

Feb 18, 2009

Serbia’s Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has warned that a serious security crisis is possible in Kosovo unless the six-point plan that passed the UN is not implemented.

“If this plan is not implemented, if what the Security Council approved is not implemented on the ground, we will have a strong security crisis,” Jeremic said.

Kosovo Albanian separatists have said that, for them, the UN’s six-point plan does not exist.

Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac reiterated that Serbia seeks to protect and increase regional safety as well as its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“In that sense Serbia is advocating the strengthening of the role of the UN and creation of secure mechanisms of common safety, and it is prepared to strengthen its own security by engaging in Europe’s security and defense policy and participating in NATO Partnership for Peace program,” Sutanovac said.

Although Minister Jeremic did not specify concrete security dangers, he did note that parts of the six-point plan are implemented.

“Some elements of the plan are already being implemented, while other elements are running late,” Jeremic said and was dissatisfied that other parts are not implemented.

Jeremic’s statements come after his meeting with the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon who said that the UN is determined to continue cooperating with Belgrade on the implementation of the six-point plan on Kosovo.

UN’s six-point plan was agreed to at the UN on the basis of the existing UN Resolution 1244 which says that Kosovo is not an independent state as Albanians separatists believe but integral part of Serbian territory.

The six-point plan allows the European Union to send its mission, the EULEX, to the province in order to curb lawlessness, crime and organized ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Albanian separatists against ethnic Serbs.

The separatists are also reluctant to engage in a technical dialogue with Belgrade authorities that could improve the functioning of EULEX but instead demand that Belgrade first recognize them as a country if such talks are to be held.

“It is not realistic to think that Kosovo authorities would be ready to negotiate the status issue again, but I think that they can talk about technical issues, without prejudgment regarding the Serbian stance on status,” said the International Civilian Representative and at the same time EU’s Special Envoy for Kosovo Pieter Feith to radio Deutsche Welle.

The so-called prime minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, however, dismissed such possibility with the fantasy rhetoric of talks between “two nations”.

“If there is something of mutual interest for both countries and the two nations, and in accordance with Ahtisaari’s package, we are here,? Thaci said.

The so-called Ahtisaari package was written up by a hired Finnish diplomat that touts independence of Kosovo. The document never passed the UN.

James, no thanks. We don’t believe in taking someone else’s land away. We are honest people unlike your lot.

We already have our own land and we will liberate the rest of our stolen land.
You can go back to Afghanistan or where ever you come from. Don’t give me the rubbish about being Illyrian. You guys were still swinging from the trees when Serbs settled. Then you decided you want to join and Serbs were polite to let you. If only they knew then. They should’ve killed you all at birth.
