Serbia, Croatia seek closer ties
President of the Serbian parliament Foreign Policy Committee Dragoljub Micunovic said that his two-day visit to Croatia “broke the ice” in the relations between Serbia and Croatia that have nearly died because of Croatia’s recognition of Kosovo’s independence and the law suit for genocide before the International Court of Justice.
“The visit came simply as an outlet after a long standstill,” Micunovic said.
Micunovic met with Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic as well as the head of the Croatian Parliament Human and National Minority Rights Committee, Furio Radin, and Croatia’s Foreign and European Integration Minister Gordan Jandrokovic.
Sanader and Micunovic both noted that the Croatian-Serbian relations represented a key factor for peace and stability in South East Europe.
Sanader told Micunovic that on its path toward NATO and the EU, Croatia will not block Serbia from joining the same but would rather make effort that the whole of the region joined the Union as soon as possible.
Both agreed to expand economic ties especially in the sphere of energy, such as new pipeline routes that would supply them with gas, oil and electric power.
Sanader said that his upcoming March 20th visit to Serbia will lead to better economic and political ties between the two countries.
The head of the Croatian Parliament Human and National Minority Rights Committee, Furio Radin, said that Micunovic’s visit will improve the situation of Serbs in Croatia.
Radin and Micunovic also discussed ways to support human rights and the rights of national minorities.
Croatia’s Foreign and European Integration Minister Gordan Jandrokovic said Croatia wants to build mutually stable relations with Serbia. Jandrokovic added that European orientation of the two countries is additionally contributing to the long-term stability of Southeast Europe.
Micunovic said that the rhetoric was the main obstacle to the relations and it should be changed in order for both countries to turn to the real problems.
Micunovic said that he head raised the issues of return of refugees, the law suit before the ICJ and the Kosovo problem during his meeting with Croatian Premier Ivo Sanader, while Croatia raised the issue of the borders on the Danube.

Personally, I think that there should be a “Great wall of China” to separate Serbia from Croatia and to protect Serbian people. Croatia never apologized for Jasenovac, Operation Oluja itd. and they never will, so why do they expect us to apologize? It is well known fact that they are still pro-fascist society (example are rock concerts from last summer when swastika was on flags, t-shirts etc) and we are better off without any contact with Croatia. And what would be “economic interests”? Perhaps to spend our cash in the Croatians hotels on the seaside and to be called “Serbian pigs” and insulted as they usually do? I will go to Croatia only when I lose my mind….
Hope there are more Serbian people who fell like me. One cannot trust them (they recognized Kosovo in the end of the day!) and why do we need them anyway?
Lets face the Croats have always been jealous of the Serbs. The Serbs were building empires, kingdoms, churches, and fighting for their own freedom when the Croats were stable cleaners and boot lickers of their Austro-Hungarian masters.
The Croats spoke of their 1000 year old western culture and civilization but at the first chance they went about slaugtering poor peasants for no other reason other than the fact they were Serbs and Orthodox.

I asked myself that question a thousend times, and I always come back to the religion issue, Vatican is to blame for the hatered, they have been pumping Croatians with hatered ever since 1050 when the churches divided.Serbia is the gate to the west and on the otherside a gate to the moslim world.Vatican can’t stand it or deal with our faith and standstrong. They even openly supported the ustascha’s, back then and now.
Vatican is big deal responsble for the hatered.
I don’t accept their apologies, give us back our Krajina and then we can MAYBE talk, but never be friends again.

The diffrence between Thompson and Baja, is that Thompson didn’t loose his home, so don’t even go there. Why the Serbs don’t “want” to go back to Krajina is because you can’t garantee them human rights, not because they don’t feel like going home, that is their home, always has been for hondreds of years, they watched our borders were very brave people.

Jonesy, There so much crap in your post that it would take an essay to respond but here are the high points.
1. YU was good for everyone but the Serbs and especially good for the Kosovo Albanians who were the biggest receipients of the Yu cradle to grave welfare. Serbia was divided up into Vojvodina and Kosovo. Croatia was not divided up into Krajina, Slavonia, or Dalmatia
2 Serbia is not protecting a Tito. He is a dead like Lenin and somewhat of a tourist attaction. Do you want us to exhume him and send him back to Croatia.
3. The concetration camps in Serbia were run and organized by the Germans. The Serbian people were considered a conquered people in WWII by Germany. Serbia itself was divided up by Bulgaria, Hungary, and Germany. Croatia was a bonafide ally of Germany and therin lies the difference. You arguments about concentration camps in Serbia is like blaming Auwshwitz on Poland.
4. The EU and the US do care about the past but only THEIR past. They do not give a crap about anyone else’s past.
By the way Joneys, As a Croat can you tell me where this hatred of the Serbs started. I mean it did not start in 1992 or 1941. It started I believe in the late 1800’s by if I am not mistaken Starcevic. What did poor Serbian peasant farmers do to the Croats to deserve such a massacre and hatred?

Jasenovac 1948-60,000 dead, 1960-125,00 dead, 1975-300,000 dead, 1985-600,000 dead and lately one of your bloggers mentions 2,000,000 dead, whats next over 6,000,000 just like the Jewish fabrication. The Serbs did have concerns during Starcevic’s era, we had a concern during 1927 onwards when Serbs were looking to expand. Radic assisnation was a turning point in Croat-Serb relations. This all could’ve been forgotten in 1991 when Tudjman and Milosevic got together in Beograd to carve up the former Yu so both peoples could live together and work together for a better future, which it would’ve been if Slobo didn’t reneg on the deal. I am only guessing but I believe the following should’ve occured after the meeting. Serbs to have Knin, West and Sth Western Bosnia ( Not Bihac ),All eastern Bosnia-from Bjeljelina to Bileca, Sarajevo and Tuzla. The Croats to recieve Posavina-Brod, Derventa and Doboj. Central Bosnia-Travnik, Zenica, Konjic and Vakuf and Hercegovina to Mostar. Serb populations from Croatia proper(except Knin) to be moved to newly formed Serb Bosnia and Croats that come under Serb territory to be moved to Western Slavonia and Lika. It’s that easy within 12 months the poopulation shifts would’ve been complete and all happy. Both countries would’ve now been E.U members/ecomony booming instead we are both 30 years behind Germany and France. The Bosnian Muslims would either join the Croatian entity or Serbian entity as mminorites. No War, No Suffering. . “Think About It !” Do you reall y think I am wrong?

What ever atrocities were committed in the past are forgotten except the recent Serb atrocities in the early 90’s. The U.N charter of 1948 claims no country is able to take legal action on another regarding alleged war crimes which occured before 1948.The Serbs missed the 1948 deadline, Jasenovac is over it’s finished there is no case. We all should be focusing on Srebrenica and Vukovar. If you Serbs strongly believe that we are NAZI’s than so be it as the whole of the E.U must be NAZI’s as they want us to be a part of it (E.U). The Serbs nmust look to Russia for guidance and not try to please the E.U as the E.U are against you ( Holland, Germany etc.) Even Montenegro will advance quicker than Serbia. Croatia is a fake unsustainable state, propped up by the US/EU. Their history is the history of Austria/Hungary. Their national identity is that of Germanized Slavs. They have more in common with Germans than Slavs and should declare themselves (with Slovenia) as part of Austria. Serbia should keep them at arms length (friendly but very cautious). Yes there were (are) Serbian Nazi sympathizers, but they were (are) a minority unlike their Croatian counter-parts whose mindset permeates Croatian collective thinking & action. Croatia?s collective Nazi past and present is undeniable FACT. The murdering/ethnic cleansing of innocent non-combatants (mostly Serbs) during WWII and the 90?s (on a large scale) is a legacy of Croatia?s collective guilt, for which they have never been held accountable.

Jonesy, Please do not wave UN resolutions and Charters. Yugoslvia was a charter memeber of the UN in 1948 and as such Yugoslavia’s border’s were inviolate. This was reaffirmed by the Helsinky accords. Thus the recognition of Croatia was contrary to the UN charter. UN resolutions after 1998 also state that Kosovo is part of Serbia. So please do not tell me UN decrees can not be changed or ignored.

Pesonally, I do not want Serbia to be in the EU. I do not want the EU powers to tell Serbia how big their potatos have to be and how much paper napkins they can make. The EU has three types of members, level one are the great powers; England, France, and Germany. Then there is the rest of Western Europe, Italy, Greece etc. The new comers like Slovenia, Bulgaria etc are looked upon as areas of cheap labor.
The great EU will dictate everything to the size and shape of your corn to what kind of toilet paper you can make.
As a muslim from bosnia i can tell you that “bosniak” was made up after the war to refer to the muslims in bosnia. there is no bosnian language. it dosn’t exist and it never did. our polititans just made that up too after the war. our language is a mix of serbian with the croatian dialect and therefore called serbo-croatian.
yes bosnians (bosniaks) were serbs or croats and then they converted to islam…it happened so i don’t see why people argue about it so much. i don’t call myself bosnian or bosniak but instead yugoslav or bosnian muslim sometimes.
