Colombia expels Kosovo Albanian terrorist
Colombia’s domestic security agency has expelled former ethnic Albanian separatist gunmen commander Agim Ceku because of the Interpol warrant for war crimes.
Ceku was a commander of a separatist ethnic Albanian army, the KLA, that sought to acquire power over the province by means of violence in order to proclaim independence.
Colombia’s agency spokesman confirmed the expulsion but demanded he remain anonymous.
Evidence suggests that the KLA gunmen were funded, in part, by the drug money. Former KLA gunmen were also linked to Colombian drug cartels Europol recently suggested.
Ceku was expelled Wednesday night after taking part in a conference on the demobilization of guerrilla movements. The meeting was organized by Colombia’s government and attended by President Alvaro Uribe. It is unclear who invited Ceku to the conference.
Ceku, a former colonel in the Croatian army, commanded the notorious 1993 Medak Pocket operation killing 500 Serb civilians. Canadian troops that witnessed the atrocities demanded that Ceku be arrested for war crimes.
In 1998, Ceku moved to Serbia’s Kosovo province where he commanded ethnic Albanian separatist units, the KLA, that took part in killing Serb civilians.
In 2002 Serbia issued a warrant for Ceku’s arrest for war crimes after gathering evidence that he terrorized Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo.
Ceku was often invited to NATO briefings with top generals such as Wesley Clark and Michael Jackson.
Associated Press is referring to Ceku as the “Kosovo liberation leader”.
