Balkan
countries have a future?

Before proceeding with any attempt to address such uneasy question,
some necessary clarifications would be not only appropriate, but absolutely
mandatory as well. The first one: the author does not have anything to
do with the dramatically sounding title- as a matter of fact it has been
a question asked by a student of his. The second clarification contains
an interesting component- the only country that has been left out of the
frame of student's curiosity was Albania, the future of which according
to young man's opinion was secured… Why? Well, simply because Albania is
a Muslim country…
Consequently, the question chosen to be the title of this article relates
only to the non- Muslim countries. Well, before anything else, let's remind
ourselves the joyless fact that according to the majority of the experts
Europe is doomed to become a territory controlled by Radical Islam. This
fact means that the Balkan states as a part of Europe, (although not well
known, well beloved, or well respected one), are doomed as well. The only
open question is WHEN the Balkan area is supposed to be thoroughly Islamized-
together with the rest of the continent, or prior to that?
Arguably, the most respected scholar among the experts, Bernard Lewis,
is also the most magnanimous one, as far as the length of the process is
concerned. The famous Princeton based scholar predicts that the Radical
Islam will swallow Europe at the end of this century.
There are however, different and equally convincing voices carrying
even more disturbing message. Those messengers do believe that History
wouldn't be so generous with the amount of time the Europeans will have
at their disposal in order to prevent, or at least to postpone, the loss
of the national, cultural and religious identity of the countries where
they were born. In his ground breaking work” The Coming Balkan Caliphate”,
for instance, the journalist and writer Christopher Deliso, has issued
a warning that the Islamization of the Balkans has its own dynamics
able to accelerate the process .
The creation of political structure based on the belief system of the
radical Islamists would eliminate for ever all achievements of the European
civilization in the course of the last five hundred years. The reason behind
such discouraging statement is really simple: according to the fanatics
inspired by Radical Islam, every aspect of the human life has been personally
regulated by God himself and has been revealed to the ignorant mankind
as early as Seventh Century AD by His Prophet… Consequently, there is no
room whatsoever for human contribution to any aspect of government.
It would be interested to know what the Islamists think about the chances
they have to achieve their main goal, which, of course, is nothing short
of complete global domination. The one this author has asked, (who happened
to be an young and well educated man, by the way), shot back his answer
right away without a second of hesitation or reflection: “Once America
goes down, the rest of the world will follow shortly”.
This answer is bringing about another important question though: if
this statement is true, then should we accept the premise that the rampant
anti- Americanism reigning supreme in many parts of Europe is helping the
advancement of the Radical Islam? The obviously positive answer doesn't
solve the problem either, because the American policy makers themselves
are responsible for mistakes that are bringing about new levels of
anti- Americanism.
Case in point was, (and still is!), the US policy in the Balkan area.
The American move against Serbia with regard to the ethnic conflict ravaging
Kosovo has been largely supported by the American public opinion on moral
grounds. The intervention has been perceived by too many people as a noble
effort directed at the ethnic cleansing performed by the Milosevic government
against the Albanian residents of Kosovo. There was abundant evidence
of repression and suffering inflicted on innocent people that has been
presented on all TV channels .
Very soon however, the situation has been reversed. A seemingly endless
violence has been initiated and escalated against the Serbian community
of Kosovo. Unlike the previous situation though, the ethnic cleansing of
the Serbian residents of the area never attracted the attention of the
American journalists and commentators.
The printed and electronic media in the United States has remained
indifferent to this important dimension of the events. There wasn't on
American TV, (and still there isn't!), any coverage of the devastated Serbian
homes, the desecrated Serbian churches and monasteries. The media remained
silent about the tragedy of the Serbian refugees, who, indisputably, have
been victims of an obvious and vicious ethnic cleansing of worst possible
kind.
With the proven lack of a correct, well prepared, and well executed
Balkan strategy, the United States of America is facing future destabilization
of an extremely sensitive part of Europe seriously threatened by the main
American enemy. As far as the other side of the problem is concerned, it
is time for the Balkan intellectuals to try to bring to the American people
all dimensions of the truth about the realities of their region.
