Macedonia protests against Greece over flight ban April 18, 2008 TIRANA, Apr 18, 2008 (Xinhua via COMTEX News Network) -- Macedonian authorities sent a note of protest to Greece on Friday over its banning Macedonia's national airline from landing on its territory, news reaching here from Skopje reported. "The decision of Greek transport ministry not to allow the Macedonian Airlines to touch down is Greece represents a blatant violation of the international laws," Macedonia's transport ministry said in the note. Greece has rejected a request by Macedonia's national carrier to fly chartered flights into its territory, saying they can't give a green light to flights under the name of "Macedonian Airlines." Athens has been opposed to its neighbor being called the " Republic of Macedonia", arguing it implies a territorial claim over a Greek northern province also called Macedonia. Macedonia's NATO membership was blocked by Greece over a 17- year-long name dispute between the two countries early this month at a NATO summit in Romania.
