Serbian justice minister vows UN court help

July 09, 2008 7:46 AM

BELGRADE, Serbia-Serbia's new justice minister is pledging that authorities will capture war crimes fugitives sought by the U.N. tribunal in The Hague.

Justice Minister Snezana Malovic says the new government has made it a priority to arrest former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, his military commander Gen. Ratko Mladic and a former Croatian leader Goran Hadzic.

The Netherlands-based court has charged Karadzic and Mladic with genocide for allegedly orchestrating the massacre of 8,000 Muslims from Srebrenica in July 1995.

Previous Serbian governments have maintained they could not locate the suspects. Western officials now are hoping the new, pro-Western government will step up the efforts.
