Donors fear Kosovo money mismanagement July 14, 2008 SERBIANNA Following the donors conference for Kosovo separatists, commentators are noting that "there was hesitation by European Union countries to allocate all funds requested by the Government of Kosovo at the donors’ conference in Brussels on Friday" because "European Union fears the possibility of mismanagement of funds." American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo says that it is doubtful that the money will be deposited into the account ran by the separatist government. Rather, the money will be "jointly" held and spent mostly on work by agencies. The funds are not seen as the "overall solution to Kosovo's problems". The so-called prime minister of Kosovo, Hasim Thaci say that the "whole world trusts Kosovo, trusts we have good governance, trusts in the establishment and effective functioning of institutions, rule of law, fight against corruption and organized crime, respect for minorities”. Since violently taking power in Kosovo in 1999, over two thirds of Christian Serbs have been expelled, their churches systematically destroyed and the remaining Christians live in ghettos with daily barrage of violence. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo said the amount of money collected for the Islamic separatists in Kosovo exceeds expectations. "We are very pleased," she said.
