Serbia to seek extradition of Seattle Nazi July 17, 2008 SERBIANNA War crimes prosecutor's office in Serbia has contacted the US Embassy in Belgrade to determine whether a criminal prosecution is initiated against Peter Egner for his alleged participation in Nazi death squads that were killing Serbs, Jews and Roma in WWII occupied Belgrade. "We spoke with the American Embassy in Belgrade," says Bruno Vekaric, spokesman for Serbia's war crimes prosecutors office. "If no criminal investigation is initiated in the US, then Serbian prosecutors office will conduct its own investigation, issue a warrant for arrest and request Egner's extradition to Serbia," said Vekaric. Vekaric also noted that his office has contacted the Belgrade's Historical Archive in order to provide all relevant documentation on Nazi atrocities in Sajmiste and Avala, locations were Egner is cited to have participated. Egner himself acknowledged, while in Seattle, that during the course of WWII he was shot by a "Serbian resistance" fighter. Egner has lived in Seattle for last 50 years and is unclear how he got into the US given his background.
