Karadzic had hair cut, beard shaved; looks same

July 23, 2008 9:00 AM

BELGRADE, Serbia-Radovan Karadzic's lawyer says his client has had his hair cut and beard shaved.

Lawyer Sveta Vujacic says Karadzic now looks "exactly the same as 14 years ago, only older."

Karadzic's long, gray hair and beard have helped him conceal his identity while on the run.

The lawyer says Karadzic had asked for the barber to be sent in to the detention unit in Belgrade on Wednesday.

The former Bosnian Serb leader was arrested in Serbia on Monday. He is wanted by the U.N. war crimes court in The Hague, Netherlands, on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity.
