Serbian government to decide on returning ambassadors to EU states

July 24, 2008 7:05 AM

BELGRADE, Serbia-The Serbian government says it is considering reinstating ambassadors withdrawn from EU countries that backed Kosovo's independence.

Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic has said that the return of the ambassadors would help Serbia's efforts to join the European Union.

The government will make a decision Thursday. Belgrade refuses to endorse the secession of the region that split in February, but Kosovo's statehood has been recognized by the U.S. and 20 EU member states.

Serbia has no plans to return its ambassador to Washington or other non-EU states that recognized Kosovo.
