Serbia reinstates ambassadors in EU states

July 24, 2008 9:45 AM

BELGRADE, Serbia-Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic says the government has decided to reinstate ambassadors withdrawn from EU countries that supported Kosovo's independence.

Jeremic says the return of ambassadors will help Serbia's attempts to one day join the European Union.

The withdrawal of the ambassadors was a protest measure by Serbia toward the countries that backed Kosovo's independence.

Kosovo's statehood has been recognized by the U.S. and 20 EU member states.

Serbia has no plans to return its ambassador to Washington or other non-EU states that recognized Kosovo.
