Albania to slash mobile phone tariff
September 02, 2008 11:35 AM

TIRANA, Sep 02, 2008 (Xinhua via COMTEX News Network) -- Albania announced on Tuesday that mobile phone rates in this tiny western Balkan country would decrease by 20 percent by October.

Albania currently has one of the highest mobile rates in Europe. And the price drop was announced after a new mobile communications law was adopted in June.

Albanian Minister of Telecommunications Sokol Olldashi also said, while making the announcement, that Albania intends to invite international tenders for the construction of a fourth mobile company in October.

Albania currently has three mobile phone companies: Albanian Mobile Communications, Vodafone Albania and Eagle Mobile. It has one landline phone provider owned by a Turkish consortium.
