Reactions to Montenegro recognition October 10, 2008 SERBIANNA Montenegro's Foreign Minister Milan Rocen said that it is regrettable that Montenegro's Ambassador Anka Vojvodic is being kicked out of Serbia because Montenegro recognized Serbian province of Kosovo as independent and thinks that the reaction will be temporary. "I can only express regret over such a decision, which, in my opinion, is the result of a hasty act of the Serbian government, and which I trust will be a short-term one," Rocen said. Politicians in Serbia, however, have stormy reactions on Montenegro's decision. Serbian President Boris Tadic said that Montenegro recognition does not contribute to peace in the region. "With this move the government of Montenegro, the country with which we wanted to have the best possible relations, questions the sovereignty and integrity of Serbia. This had caused major damage to Serbia's and Montenegro's citizens alike, who have so many things in common. I am confident that citizens of Montenegro do not agree with this decision," Tadic said. Serbian Ambassador to Podgorica Zoran Lutovac said that Montenegro's decision to recognize Kosovo independence represents an interference into the internal affairs of Serbia and an attack on its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said that the decision to recognize was done under pressure but that Montenegro did not have to do it. Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanovic said that the recognition is regrettable because it comes after UN decided to rule on the issue. Parliament whip Branko Ruzic said that the recognition decision shows hypocrisy of the ruling regime in Montenegro. Ruzic also recalled the widely known fact the the Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic is a smuggler of contraband. "One thing is certain after this act, and that is that the political career of Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic is over, and that he will, most likely, spend days in one of Europe's penitentiaries, despite the fact that he had met the condition set before him," Ruzic said. Former Prime Minister of Serbia, Vojislav Kostunica, said that Serbia should sue Montenegro along with others that have recognized Kosovo. "This would be an adequate response and a warning to other states who are getting involved in this illegal recognition of Kosovo," Kostunica said. Serbia whip Tomislav Nikolic and former leader of Radicals said that fate of the Serbian people in Montenegro is under a big question mark. Radical Party leader said that Montenegro committed the "most shameful act in its history" Deputy Whip of the New Serbia Miroslav Markicevic said that people of Montenegro did not recognize Kosovo. G17 Plus whip Suzana Grubjesic said that the recognition does not contribute to good relations. "The fact is that this recognition in no way endangers Montenegro's European integrations and that the recognition has not been set as a condition for Montenegro's speedier movement towards the EU at any moment," Grubjesic said. Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Cedomir Jovanovic aid that kicking out the Montenegrin Ambassador was an unreasonable act. Leader of United Serbia Dragan Markovic Palma said that Serbia must ban Milo Djukanovic and his officials from flying over and into Serbia. "I am sure that 80% of Montenegro citizens does not think like its leadership. I requested that the airplanes no longer fly to Montenegro and to ban Montenegrin citizens from buying and owning property in Serbia," said Markovic. Markovic says that relations with Montenegro must be frozen and that Serbia has been betrayed by those whom Serbia has fed for 50 years. FOrmer Minister for Kosovo Slobodan Samardzic said that the effects of Serbia's victory at the UN lasted for 24 hours and demanded that government declare its plans on stopping any additional recognitions of Kosovo. Samardzic says that Serbia must reexamine its European integration process because Europe is there as an "assistant of US in the process of pressuring recognitions". Representative from the Democratic Party, Dragan Sormaz, said that property should be confiscated from all who are from Montenegro because Montenegrins "love to educate themselves in Belgrade, and many of them have firms."
