PRAGUE, Apr 28, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Albanian Prime Minister
Sali Berisha officially submitted his country's application for EU membership
here on Tuesday.
Berisha submitted the application to Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek,
whose country holds the EU's current rotating presidency.
The application is seen as a new step taken by Albania toward its integration
into Euro-Atlantic structures. Berisha said it was a historical moment
for Albania.
He also said 96 percent of Albanian citizens support full integration
of the country into EU.
Topolanek assured Berisha that the Czech Republic would support Albania's
effort during the whole process.
